Pre-College Exploratory Workshops

Housing and Dining | July 26-31, 2020

Housing

Participants will live on campus in Stone-Davis, an historic Wellesley Residence Halls. Residential Directors and their staff will live among the students. Residential staff will be a resource for support, social activities, and ensuring the safety of all students.

Residence halls offer laundry room facilities, multiple study rooms, living room with TV, fitness area, dining hall, and a backyard patio overlooking Lake Waban.

Please keep in mind that dorm rooms are not air-conditioned when planning what items to bring. There will be common spaces, such as study and TV rooms, that are air-conditioned. We strongly recommend all students bring a fan.

Housing is included in the residential program fees; therefore, you will be automatically assigned a room and will not incur any additional costs.

Please note: The safety and security of all members of our Pre-College Programs are extremely important to us. Therefore, Wellesley does hire seasonal summer staff who have expertise working with minors.

Visitor Information

Summer program students may not have overnight guests. During the day and evening, immediate family members and other approved adult visitors are welcome in the common areas. The Residential Directors must be informed in writing 72 hours in advance of all visitors coming to the residence hall.

Overnight Absence from Campus for Residential Students

Occasionally participants need to leave campus overnight (for family commitments, obligations, etc.).  If a participant needs to be away from campus overnight, their parent/guardian must inform the Residential Director by email in writing at least 72 hours in advance. We ask that overnight absences be kept to a minimum as participants as the program activities are a key feature of the experience.

Quiet Hours and Noise

In order to create an environment conducive to intellectual pursuit and individual well-being, all residents should refrain from creating inordinate or unnecessary noise. Quiet hours for purposes of study and sleep are set, lasting from 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM on Sunday through Thursday. Quiet hours begin at midnight on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Students who are bothered by noise are expected to alert those individuals creating noise or engaging in behavior that is disruptive to the community. It is also expected that any resident will honor the request of another resident to restrict the noise they are creating. Residential staff may be asked to intervene if the request is not acknowledged, if it is ongoing problem, or if any conflict results that the residents cannot resolve on their own.

Room Changes

Roommates are assigned based on a number of factors, such as age, allergies, and workshop choice. Due to the brief duration of the summer term, room changes are not allowed except in cases of severe duress or emergency, as determined by the Residential Directors.

Dining

Residential participants will enjoy a full meal plan (breakfast, lunch and dinner) in the dining hall in the Stone-Davis Residence Hall.  All meals are included in the residential program fees; lunch and dinner are included in the commuter program fees.

Breakfast Hours: 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM
Lunch Hours: 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Dinner Hours: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Participants may also use cash to dine at other campus eating facilities including Bae Pao, The Emporium, and the Leaky Beaker.  Just a ten-minute walk from campus is downtown Wellesley -- fondly referred to as "the Vil"--which offers an array of quick-serve restaurants and coffeehouses that can be enjoyed during free time.

Dietary Restrictions and Allergies
Any participant with food allergies or dietary restrictions will need to identify their needs in the student health portal once admitted.  There are a variety of choices always available in our dining hall including vegetarian, vegan, non-dairy, and gluten free.
