About Wellesley College and One Wellesley Summer Programs
Wellesley College is known for the excellence of its education, the beauty of its setting, the expertise of its gifted faculty, and the uniqueness of its campus culture. Wellesley is consistently ranked among top liberal arts colleges, and is considered one of the US's most prominent women’s colleges. Above all, Wellesley is known for the thousands of accomplished, thoughtful women it has sent out into the world—women who are committed to making a difference.
One Wellesley Summer is committed to the core values of Wellesley. It promotes disciplined thinking and diversity, and challenges students to pragmatic leadership, service, and making a difference in the world. One Wellesley Summer offers residential, academic summer programs to highly motivated high-school students and intellectually curious undergraduates. Summer students receive the same calibre of education as Wellesley undergraduates, with courses and workshops taught in small settings by full-time Wellesley faculty. Summer students also receive access to most campus resources and facilities.
Supervision and Support
For many accepted students, attending a program through One Wellesley Summer may be their first time living away from home, where they will be interacting with new people and learning new ways of thinking. As such, One Wellesley Summer residential staff work to foster community within residential halls, ensuring students adjust to campus life and college academics as smoothly as possible. We believe that our accepted students demonstrate both seriousness in learning and the maturity to take on the challenges of living in a new environment.
However, we are aware that attending a residential summer program is a significant decision for both our students and their parents or guardians. Our residential staff offer structured support to our students, including curfew and supervised trips, so that parents and guardians may feel secure in the safety and well-being of their child.
One Wellesley Summer students learn from renowned Wellesley faculty. Depending on the program, students take up to two courses/workshops taught by Wellesley's accredited faculty. Students can expect to have professors who feel passionately about what they teach, who consistently go the extra mile for their students. In fact, Wellesley students frequently cite the excellence of the faculty as a core component of what makes Wellesley a transformative learning enviornment. Faculty are regularly accessible to students through scheduled office hours. In addition, communication between the faculty and residential staff makes faculty aware of academic needs particular to high school students and visiting undergraduates.
The role of the residential staff is to support student well-being throughout the program. Residential staff include Resident Directors and Resident Assistants. Resident Directors have years of experience supervising residential life throughout Wellesley's academic year, meaning summer students receive the same level of support as Wellesley undergraduates. Their work is supported by a team of Summer Residential Assistants (RAs), who are current Wellesley College undergraduates. The RAs are not only knowlegable about the ins and outs of Wellesley, but also receive intensive leadership training in order to be fully prepared for all circumstances. Resident Assistants also serve students by offering academic tutoring, which is offered every evening to students in their own residential halls.
Campus Resources and Safety
One Wellesley Summer works with various services and departments on campus to support our students' living and learning experience. Summer students will have access to Wellesley College Health Services, Stone Conselling Center, Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, and Keohane Sports Center (during open hours.) Wellesley Campus Police is on duty 24/7 to enforce campus security and student safety.
